My friend Casey Collins had been staying with my family and me for a few weeks, helping out with vocal production on the album. My husband and I had been doing the typical dance of a couple raising a child, running a home, and trying to figure out if we were going to try to have our second child after many past attempts.
Casey was witnessing our dynamic and also observing me in all of my different roles - as a mom, a wife, a friend, volunteering at my daughters school, doing my best to take care of myself, trying to revive my music career, and all the struggles associated with daily life.
He pulled me aside one day and said, “Liza, you need to write a song about being a woman in the world”…”You need to share your experience of the karmic juggle that so many women experience”, and I think we pretty much nailed it.
